About Me: I grew up in Rapid City, SD and attended the University of South Dakota where I majored in Political Science, minored in English, and earned a certificate in Secondary Education. I began my educational career teaching Social Studies in Casper, Wyoming, where I met and married my husband, who teaches middle school math and science. After having two children, I attended Chadron State College to earn my Master’s Degree in Educational Administration. Our family moved to Colorado in 2002 and I worked as an assistant principal and then principal at Sierra Middle School for 13 years. I am excited to serve as the principal of Mrachek Middle School and partner with students and families to ensure every student has the opportunity to shape his/her future.
Job Description: My job is to accelerate learning for every student, every day. I do my job by building caring relationships with and among students, staff, and parents to create a safe, rigorous, and engaging learning environment. My community needs me to do my job.
Brittney Cardwell - Assistant Principal
About Me: I am a native of New Mexico and have been in Denver for 11 years. I have toddler twin boys (Swayze and Anderson) that keep my husband and I very busy.
This is my 4th year at Mrachek and in APS. Prior to APS, I was a special education teacher for 3 years at Montbello High School and a special education consultant for 4 years with Denver Public Schools. I have a Bachelor’s degree in University Studies with an emphasis on English Comparative Literature, and a Master’s degree in Administrative Leadership and Policy Studies.
I am excited to be part of the Mrachek team and look forward to serving my community!

Jessica Johnson - Assistant Principal
I am a Colorado Native. I grew up in Elizabeth Colorado and graduated from Elizabeth High School. Go Cardinals! I am a proud member of the Aurora community where I currently live with my family and dogs.
This is my fourth year at Mrachek. GO, TITANS! Previously I supported the Vista Peak Preparatory learning community as the special education department chair. My educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from the Metropolitan State University of Denver, a Master's degree in Teaching with an emphasis in Special Education from the Metropolitan State University of Denver, an Educational Specialist degree from the University of Northern Colorado where I also completed my Principal licensure and Special Education Director licensure program. I am currently completing my doctoral program at UNC and am looking forward to integrating my research into my daily practice as an APS leader.
My job is to accelerate learning for every APS student every day. I do my job by supporting staff, students, and the Mrachek community by building and encouraging community relationships and partnerships, supporting and fostering trauma-informed education, and serving as a mentor for educators and students. My community needs me to do my job.

Colin Lynch - Assistant Principal
About Me: My name is Colin Lynch. I have been an educator for 16 years in one capacity or another. I began my career as a special education teacher, then moved to a full time Social Studies teacher, and have been an Assistant Principal for a year and a half, prior to joining the Mrachek team. I have four wonderful children, and have been married to my amazing wife for 11 years. In my career I have been privileged to learn under some of the most amazing educational minds of our generation, and I am very excited to be joining our incredible Mrachek team.
