MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Mrachek Parents and Community,
Our school year is moving rapidly, third quarter is quickly coming to a conclusion and we have much work to be accomplished. We will be assessing all of our students during the first two weeks of March in reading, writing, math, and science for CSAP. I am asking for your help to ensure that your student is well rested and on time during the assessment window. We plan on giving only one test per day for nine consecutive days beginning March 1st to our sixth and seventh grade students and twelve days of testing for eighth grade students. This is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning over the past year, as well as provide educators valuable data on how to best meet the needs of each student.
In addition I want to bring to your attention a recent issue we are experiencing with which I truly need your assistance. I have received many phone calls from members of the community concerned about the safety and behavior of students when they leave campus. As you know the school day ends at 2:50 in the afternoon and we release 1000 adolescent students into the community at one time. Please ensure that your student is due home shortly after the day ends. Often young people make poor decisions when they are in the company of their peers without adult supervision. As the weather warms during spring months we often experience increased vandalism as students walk through the neighborhood. We will increase the adult supervision as students leave campus; however if students are accountable for arriving home at a specific time it will help get students home sooner. If you are willing to assist with adult supervision during after-school transition please give me a call.
The Mrachek staff is in the process of finalizing plans for the 2010-2011 school year. The master schedule for next year is being built and will be finalized prior to Spring Break. Students will be registering for their classes toward the end of April. In addition, 5th Block invitations will be coming home for 100 students who qualify during the third week of March.
The Galaxy Initiative is a program for 6th, 7th and 8th graders who are interested in the STEM areas of science, technology, engineering and math. Applications will be available for a limited number of openings for seventh and eighth grade students. Please contact Marcia Olson for information.
Finally, continuation is quickly approaching for our eighth grade students and parents. I am asking for parent assistance to help eighth grade students finish the school year at Mrachek in a positive manner that is focused on learning. A quick reminder that all eighth grade students must meet the district continuation requirements to attend both the eighth grade celebration at Utah Pool and the continuation ceremony held at Rangeview High School on May 19th. If you have any questions regarding eighth grade continuation please contact any building administrator or the main office.
Best Regards,
Edward Snyder
